• Ganesha is invoked first in almost every Vedic ritual, including the pujas of other deities; the opening step of a formal ceremony is literally called Ganapati Puja or Ganesh sthapana.
• He carries the titles Vighnaharta (remover of obstacles) and Vighnakarta (placer of obstacles) at the same time — the tradition holds that the obstacle and its removal come from the same hand.
• The Ganapati Atharvashirsha, a short Upanishadic text recited during his worship, identifies Ganesha with the syllable Om itself.
